The
Property

If you love nature but enjoy comfortable accommodation, Lilypad is the perfect place to stay. In addition to the cabins you’ll have full access to the established gardens and wonderfully diverse property with its combination of different areas to explore and take in. Take a stroll from your cabin accommodation through the many and varied paths around the property, enjoying the mist in the early morning, or the golden rays of the late afternoon sun.

The property includes an interesting mix of exotic plants and natives, with a variety of flowering specimen trees, a rainforest woodland, terraced gardens and waterways. There are three distinct but adjoining water features on the property fed from a spring on neighbouring land and ultimately flowing out of Lilypad into Little Hydes Creek. The first water feature is a natural swamp set amongst the woodland and lined with rows of beautiful tree ferns. The swamp flows into the pond located in front of Lilypad’s cabins, filled with purple waterlilies that flower in Spring, Summer and Autumn. The third and largest pond is situated in front of the house and is distinctive with its own little island. Walk through the arbour and across our Monet style bridge to access the island with its Bangalow palms and Weeping Lilypilies which give it a natural cathedral-like feel. Bring your camera or easel to capture the beautiful reflections in our lilyponds, and while you are at it, keep an eye out for our Azure Kingfishers as they swoop backwards and forwards across the water.

The rest of the well established gardens are separated into various sections that are easily explored. The areas around the house include a series of scented perennial beds with numerous roses and flowering plants. Nearby, the secret garden is filled with bromeliads and other tropical plants – the challenge is finding it! The citrus orchard is filled with lemons, oranges, grapefruit, mandarins and limes that are laden with fruit in Autumn and Winter. Bring a bag as you are welcome to help yourselves to fruit at any time – the grapefruit will work perfectly in a gin cocktail on your cabin balcony.

The garden in front of the cabins has been planted out with a range of flowering natives with the aim to increase biodiversity and bring the birds in for close viewing from your accommodation. In Winter and early Spring, the Grevillea, Bottlebrush and Leptospermum burst into flower providing lots of colour and nectar for the birds. In Summer, the flowering gums put on their spectacular display along with the Gymea Lily and Kangaroo Paw that sway gently in the breeze.

The woodland is more natural with a variety of Gums, Hoop Pines, rainforest trees and plenty of bush tucker plants. It’s the perfect spot to go birdwatching or to listen to the frogs calling in the mornings and evenings. Finally, if you take a walk up the hill on northside of the property, you will get spectacular views out across Hydes Creek – it’s a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.

Whatever type of garden takes you fancy, we’re pretty sure we’ll have something you’ll enjoy here at Lilypad. Why not book a cabin for a couple of days, it’s the best place to stay in Bellingen.
